Candle Safety & Care

Safe use comes before atmosphere.

The guidance below applies to candles selected and sold by VELSENNE. Always read and follow the warning label supplied with the individual product. If the manufacturer’s instructions are more restrictive, follow those instructions.

Before Lighting

  • Remove all outer packaging, tags and protective materials.
  • For botanical or decorative candles, completely remove all dried flowers, leaves, fruit, spices, crystals and other loose decorations before lighting.
  • Trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch (6 mm).
  • Check that the vessel is not cracked, chipped or otherwise damaged.
  • Place the candle upright on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface.

While the Candle Is Burning

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Keep it away from children, pets, drafts, vents and flammable materials.
  • Keep the wax pool clear of wick trimmings, matches and debris.
  • Do not move or touch the candle while the wax is liquid or the vessel is hot.
  • Do not burn for more than four hours at a time, or for longer than stated on the product label.
  • Keep burning candles adequately separated from one another.

The First Burn

Where practical, allow the melt pool to reach close to the edges of the container during the first burn. This can help reduce tunnelling. Never extend the burn beyond the time permitted on the product label.

Extinguishing and Relighting

Use a candle snuffer where available. Make sure the flame is fully extinguished and allow the wax and vessel to cool completely before moving, trimming or relighting the candle. Re-centre the wick only after extinguishing the flame and while the wax remains soft.

When to Stop

Discontinue use when approximately 1/2 inch (12 mm) of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel, or sooner if required by the product label. Continuing to burn a nearly empty candle may overheat the container or the surface beneath it.

Product Variations

VELSENNE carries products from selected manufacturing partners. Vessel materials, wick types, wax blends and recommended burn times may differ between products. Refer to the individual listing and original product packaging for product-specific information.
